Jason Mraz, on “I Never Knew You”

This next song asks the question, ‘why do we forget things?’ Especially like our exes, or past relationships. Why do we forget what they were about and why we left, ya know, you leave a relationship and then a couple months later you’re like, well it wasn’t that bad! Then you call the person, and you’re like OHH! Gosh! It’s not like that all the time, but what is it about our humanness, where we forget, we remember, we forget, we remember, we forget, and I think it’s just for the opportunity of enlightenment. The opportunity of waking again and again and again cause it feels good. It feels good to remember our greatness. Ya know? It wouldn’t be so bright if there wasn’t a shadow every once in a while..Yeah so anyway, remember, forget, remember, forget, this song is about forgetting and remembering, and I realized it’s so that we can achieve enlightenment, but then, alas! We all still have to do our fucking laundry.
